Take Telehealth In Your Travels: How To Insure Your…
It wasn’t long ago, when I was working in the hospitality industry, I ran into a family who was dealing with a sick child on an expensive vacation. It was their first time taking their 3 children to a famous theme park in Orlando, Florida. If you’ve ever booked a trip to visit certain parks, you’ll completely understand the expense they put out for their park tickets, flights & accommodations. Just a 4 day multiple park pass for the family cost over $2,000.00. That doesn’t include accommodations or airfare. What they forgot to pack (their telehealth) cost them this vacation.
When they left home, excited children in tow, one of the 3 seemed to be battling a head cold. Doctoring him up, they felt the Florida sunshine would be just the cure. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. By the time they landed he was running a fever. After checking everyone into the resort, the best they could do was take turns (the parents) watching over him in the room, while the other parent took the other two children to enjoy the amenities at the resort. They did find a local doctor, who unfortunately didn’t accept their insurance, so they paid the $185.00 clinic fee, got his script & headed back to the room. Sadly, they never got to the parks that week.
This is just one, of many, examples I’ve witnessed of what can happen unexpectedly when you plan that trip of a lifetime. I’m not suggesting this wouldn’t have happened anyway, to this family, however…….if they had Telehealth they could have avoided even leaving the resort, paying the expensive clinic fee & possibly get the medicine into their son sooner.
Over 17 million people, and growing have telehealth in the United States. Telehealth is having a primary care physician, available to you, right from an App on your devices.
You can call them or video conference with them from your cell phone, tablet or a computer 24 hours a day 7 days a week. When you reach them, you get a state board certified primary care physician or pediatrician (for a child). Tell them your symptoms & if there is a script required, they send it to a pharmacy near wherever you’re staying. Of course, they DO NOT deal in narcotics, which is good. The service I use covers a family of 5 and comes with several services:
- Telehealth (access to the Primary Care Physicians)
- A Discount Pharmacy Card
- A Medical Bill Saver
- A Health Advocate
- Discounts On: Diabetic Supplies, MRI’s, CT Scans, Lab Testing
- Nurseline
- A Smartwatch called STEPUP
- And with a year membership, you get HealthPoints ™ that you can spend in an online marketplace
- They also have an add on feature that includes Vision & Dental
The service is an unbelievable price and covers all 5 family members. You can choose to pay monthly $14.95 or yearly $149.00 for all of the services above without the Vision & Dental. To sign up with the Vision & Dental it’s only $19.95 per month or $199.00 for the year! That’s IT! No co-pays, nothing else!
The service I use covers you in whatever state you’re standing in when you call (at the time of this posting it is not able to be used in Utah, Vermont or Washington states)…but any other state, yes!
Look them up by clicking on the link below. Choose PERSONAL for a family or EMPLOYER if you want to get it for your employees who are on the road ……. and never be sick on that family vacation or business trip again!
