7 Epic Trips For The Year Ahead: Bucket List Ideas And The Secrets To Travel Them

On a lazy afternoon of channel surfing, years ago, a talk show host and her young guest grabbed my attention. It wasn’t the story of his humble beginnings followed by overwhelming success that intrigued me (although impressive). It was, instead, his laser focus and discipline, at such a young age (21). Ending the interview, she asked him what his fail-proof formula for sustained success was. The answer surprised me, but I’ve never forgotten him. He said softly,“Most people, on January first, decide to start their New Year’s resolutions. They vow to be healthier, take more time for themselves, move forward in their chosen careers, whatever their planned goals are. I don’t subscribe to that habit. My ‘New Year’ doesn’t start on January first, it begins on my birthday. So, on my birthday, I take the day off. I reflect on the goals I’ve set for myself over the past year. I review them and I’m honest with myself. Some I’ve accomplished, some I’ve fallen short on and some I’ve let go, if they no longer serve a purpose for the path I’ve chosen. Then I set my goals for the coming year. It’s a celebration.  A reflection back, on another year of my life. It’s a moment of pause also though, getting prepared for the exciting things I now have to look forward to, in the year ahead.” –“Out of the mouth of babes” , Right? It’s poetic. Scheduling your life’s dreams, every year, on the day of your birth.

Clearly, changing that script serves no purpose. I’ve adopted his tradition ever since. So, every year, I make plans for where I want to go and what I want to see. Naturally earmarking time, for the things I need to do, to get me there. When I finish my plan, sometimes the travels are short, sometimes they’re longer. The great news is, as a Freelance Travel Writer, sometimes I’m on assignment, sometimes I’m on ‘me time’……. but whatever the reason, I’m always doing what I love!

Below is my 2019- 2020 list of Bucket List places I plan to explore. If you’re interested in the location or trip idea, jump on over to my Resources page to take advantage of the same deals on accommodations, transportation and tours I’ll be using to get there.
